I went there with a lot of shoulder and neck pain. I did not go for a massage, but a more pain relief and stretchy informational treatment. My shoulder and neck pain is almost all gone. Remember to stretch every day people :)
Root Cause
If you are on holiday in Gran Canaria with lower back pain, a neck that will not turn, or a shoulder that has hurt for months, this page is for you rather than the relaxation menu. Most people arrive having already tried the obvious — rubbing the sore spot, a hot shower, a massage that felt good for a day. What I do is different in one specific way: I start somewhere else, and I show you what to do when you go home.
How It Works
A neck that will not let go is usually being pulled from further down — the lower back, the hips, the legs. That is where we start, and it is why the relief holds.
What I share is what I worked out on my own body over two decades: the posture corrections, the stretches and the few simple exercises that keep a spine free. My hands open the door — releasing what is locked too hard for you to reach yourself. Everything after that is yours to do.
Almost everyone feels the change before they leave. Whether it lasts is decided by what you do with what I show you, and that is the whole point. This is not something you come back for every month. It is something you learn once.
After an Accident
Pain that began with a fall, a car accident or a sports injury behaves differently from pain that built up slowly at a desk. Tissue heals at its own pace. What often does not settle by itself is everything the body did to protect the area at the moment of the impact, and that can carry on long after the injury has healed.
“A storm does not flood a house because of the rain. It floods because the water carries everything loose with it, and the drain stays blocked long after the sky is clear. A crash, a fall, a sudden shock of pain will do the same to a body. Much of my work is clearing the drain.”
In my experience this matters most in the first weeks and months after an accident, up to about half a year. After that, pain people still blame on an old accident has usually become something else — posture, work, the way they have moved since. Working out which of the two you are dealing with is part of the first session, because the answer changes what we do.
Some people arrive after being told an operation is the next step. I cannot tell you whether that is right for you. What I can tell you is what I do myself, before any decision that cannot be undone: I ask five people from five different fields — doctors among them, and others who work in completely other ways. There are very good doctors, and there are very good massage and holistic therapists; what I look for is the same in all of them. Ten years or more of real practice, not degrees or certificates. A paper tells you nothing about whether somebody is good at the work. I listen to all five without arguing with any of them, and only then do I decide. One opinion is one angle. Five of them show you the shape of the thing, and the decision stays yours.
What I can add is simple: hands-on work is reversible and surgery is not, so you usually lose nothing by seeing what changes first.
If I do not think I can help you, I will say so.
“Build a tower a few degrees off its axis, and you spend the rest of its life keeping it from falling. A body is no different. Put it back on its axis, and it holds itself — strong and beautiful.”— Greg
